Spring is here! Yes, finally the sunbeams are starting to show. The weather forecast is looking amazing, apparently, we are now in for a really hot week in the UK.  I love the Spring, to be honest, I love all the seasons. Being a big foodie, Spring to me also means Strawberries. Strawberries are way up on my list of favourite fruits. Although we are so lucky now we can pretty much get hold of most fruits no matter what time of the year.



 

FACT – Strawberries are one of the first fruits to ripen in spring

Growing up in Cheddar, Somerset I was blessed at having the best Strawberries on our doorstep. If you haven’t tried Cheddar Strawberries you so need to. They are sooooooo sweet and juicy. The ones I have in the fridge at the moment originate from Spain, they are nice but nothing beats Cheddar ones.

When I was young a lot of the Mum’s worked at the Strawberry fields, they would do the strawberry picking whilst the kids were at school. 

FACT  – Strawberries are the only fruit with the seeds on the outside.

Today I made myself a Strawberry yoghurt, which took all of a few seconds in my blender. I literally put half a pot of natural fat-free yoghurt into the blender and added about 6-7 strawberries. In a few seconds I had my own Strawberry yoghurt but with no nasty additives added. I seem to be getting quite fussy about what exactly goes into my food. I have put the blender that I use at home below.

FACT – Strawberries are anti-ageing

I find that Strawberries make a great snack. You only need a handful of strawberries to be 1 of your 5 a day. The calorie count for about 7 strawberries is 50 calories. Chomp away! 

FACT – Strawberries are rich in Vitamin C

Touch wood! Just lately I have been very fortunate not to get any germs which have been going around. Honestly, if it’s not a winter cold it’s someone I know saying they are now suffering from another cold of some description. I make a bad patient when ill, so I try my hardest to be healthy by eating the right foods to give me plenty of nutrition. 

FACT – Strawberries are great for your complexion

This fruit is so diverse you can add it to many deserts. One of my favourites is a strawberry cheesecake. Absolutely delicious. Strawberries also can be added to a summer Punch. If you like Punch have a read of my review Pimms v Aldi’s Austin’s Summer Punch

Although I can’t get enough of this juicy red fruit my own Daughter is just not keen, which is bizarre. I’m sure one day she’ll develop a love for them but for now, it’s more for me 😀
