5 simple ways to work from home effectively
Working from home can be a struggle for many people due to the constant distractions. Nowadays, working from home is favoured by many companies as it saves them money in office space and much more. Working from home is set to rise for the future so here are my 5 ways on how to work from home like a Pro.
I have worked from home for years and I actually prefer it to work in an office. Strangely I find working in an office more distracting than working from home.
TIP 1 – How to work from home like a Pro – Get up early and get dressed!
Get up and getting dressed may sound obvious but actually, knowing you don’t have to travel or be dressed for work can be so tempting to stay in your dressing gown or pyjamas. Get up early like you would as if you are going to the office and get ready.
On days at home, I shower then I wear smart but casual clothes. Wearing bedclothes or joggers would make you feel lazy and you’d be less inclined to feel like you’re bossing it!
TIP 2 – Be firm with family and friends
Why do people assume if your working from home that means not working? When people ask to come round, be firm and say you have a lot of work on, which you will do and decline without hurting anyone’s feelings. Start as you mean to go on with friends and family. They will soon realise that working from home for you as actual work and not a day off.
However, you ARE entitled to take a break. Go for lunch rather than meet them at your home. Getting out will do you good, just be firm with the times, just like you would if you worked in an office. If your not firm an hour can turn into an afternoon which will mean working late playing catch up.
3. Make sure your environment is clean and clutter free
I can’t work in a messy environment and my office is my kitchen/dining room. Start your day fresh in a clean and uncluttered environment. This will do wonders for your mental wellbeing and your productivity. Do not leave housework for days that you are working from home.

4. Limit distractions
People I have worked with before have discussed daytime tv shows with me, for me, this is an absolute no-no. I like to work in silence or have at the most a bit of background music as I am easily distracted and watching tv will not allow me to focus. Limit distractions by leaving the TV turned off.
Turning your phone on silent for social media messages and notifications is also advisable, my phone is now constantly on silent for notifications due to distractions. Having a quick look at a notification can suddenly turn into 10 minutes or more.
5. Have a relaxing fragrant environment
When working from home I like my area to be scented with a candle. This makes my environment relaxing which helps my mind focus. I either use my own homemade candles or have an aromatherapy candle burning such as Parks Candles. I opt for uplifting smells such as oranges or lemon fragrances.
