Hollywood Bowl Opening Night March 2018
Thursday Hollywood Bowl was having their relaunch VIP night and we had been invited along. Generally speaking, we haven’t done many family night outs after work of late, maybe it’s because it’s been so miserable and cold. I did debate whether we should as my Daughter also had school in the Morning and I had work. Bowling was booked at 8 pm.
This actually was a perfect time. It was so nice to finish work and be able to freshen up without rushing before making our way to Yeovil for the opening night. With a complete stroke of luck as the car park was full outside, a car was pulling out, right outside the doors. We took that place. I checked the pay and display which turned out to be another bonus, after 6 pm to early in the morning its free. RESULT!
As we walked towards the Hollywood Bowl entrance which was all lit up, you could see through the windows into the restaurant area which also had balloons nicely displayed. We walked through the doors and we were immediately greeted by a Hollywood Bowl representative. The complex has a 1950’s American Diner style to it. We were offered champagne or orange juice which I thought was a nice touch.
Our representative explained she would show us around first then we would go to our booked bowling lane. As we moved away from the greeting area, A hired Marylyn Monroe stood in front of us, looking very glam indeed. They were offering all guests to have their picture with her. I was informed about it’s an 18 lane centre with many facilities.
Hollywood Bowl is quite big and nicely laid out. We walked into the restaurant area which is for children’s parties. The Party girl/boy gets to sit on the throne. I wouldn’t mind a throne myself.
There is a drinks/bar area which leads you to the pool room. The pool room actually has quite a few tables. It all looked so fresh.
As we were about to go our dedicated bowling lane, the announcement came on that Marilyn would be cutting the red ribbon. Off we went to the area and I joined the crowd just behind Marilyn whilst the crowd cheered and the ribbon was cut.
Out of the 4 of us, I was the only one who needed to swap their shoes for bowling ones. In the past, I have been most unimpressed by the shoes given but these were brand new and looked much nicer. Our names were on the screen and we started bowling. We cheated somewhat as we left the guards up so the balls didn’t roll down the sides.
We were having a great time, the Staff came over and gave us all the salted caramel milkshakes. This is just heaven. I’m not much a milkshake lover but this was sooooo tasty. My sister drunk hers in seconds and certainly didn’t hesitate to say yes to another.
The staff brought us over nachos, burgers, chicken dippers and hot dogs also to try. My absolute favourite food was the burger. It was big and really juicy and not what I would expect at all. The Burgers was a big thumbs up with all 4 of us.
Throughout the game, many lanes were picked on an ad-hoc basis to see if you could win a bottle of Prosecco. Our lane was picked and went pink. You have to get a strike when it’s pink. Unfortunately, I was close but just not good enough. I knocked 8 pins down.
The atmosphere was buzzing. Lots of YESSSS’S and GET IN! being shouted. My Daughter won the game and as I was collecting my coat and doing a quick shoe swap our group had gone. They didn’t hang around as they all wanted to play the arcade games.
I walked over to all the arcade games and found the group very quickly. For tonight only we were able to use any of the machines for free except for the ones that gave money or prizes. I tried the motorbikes and car rides and each time was beaten badly by my Daughter.
On-site there is a monster space invaders game. I loved this game, I think we played this about 5 times. Thankfully this was a game I did win!!!
Ready to go home, I popped to the toilets. The Hollywood theme continues into the toilets also. Not one to judge people but I do judge premises on their toilets.
Arriving home we went straight to bed. My Daughter fell asleep in minutes and yet usually she is still awake at that time of night. We chatted about our night on the car journey home. I am so glad we went out for that evening. We had lots of fun and laughs.
