Lunch at The Pig near Bath in Somerset
The Pig Hotel near Bath in Somerset is nestled away on country roads. It has been a few years now since I have had lunch at The Pig Hotel. As a treat, I thought it would be nice to take my daughter there for a spot of lunch so I booked a table a few days in advance.
A bit about The Pig. It has 6 hotels around the UK, soon to be 7. It prides itself on food that is grown on the premises from their garden or vegetable beds. If it can’t be sourced on site they source within a 25-mile radius. I was bought up this way, as a child, my grandparents would grow their own vegetables.
As we walked from the carpark to the entrance the smell of chimney fire was in the air. The weather outside was miserable and wet. I was looking forward to a nice cosy lunch. As we walked through the entrance you notice many logs stacked for the real fires throughout the hotel. There are also many Hunter wellies for you to wear if you need them.

Inside the building, you immediately feel like you have stepped back in time. A Gentleman was sat looking most content on the sofa whilst the fire was crackling away next to him. Although the decor would not suit my home, it does suit the hotel perfectly giving you a very rural country feel.

The hotel feels welcoming and warm. If you have known me as a young girl and visited our home in Cheddar, Somerset, you would know my mother was a butterfly collector. The entrance boasts many unusual butterflies which my mother would completely appreciate.
We were greeted promptly and we were taken to our table. We sat in the main restaurant, last time we were there we sat in the conservatory.
Restaurant – The Pig Hotel near Bath
Be careful walking into the restaurant as the ground is slightly uneven and if you’re not paying attention you might lose your footing.
The sourdough bread came out first and I was pleasantly surprised, the bread was warm and really soft. The bread was complimentary and I wished I had agreed to a bit more. There is a dish of real butter for you to spread on your bread.
I ordered from the lunch menu that had an offer. I thought this was a particularly good deal. 2 courses plus a drink for £20.00. The drink can be a glass of red or white wine or a non-alcoholic cocktail. My daughter opted for the ala carte menu. Of course, she did!
I choose the roasted heritage carrots with garlic aioli and toasted oats. This was absolutely delicious.
Piggy bits – The Pig Hotel
My daughter chose the Smoked Chase Vodka BBQ Ribs from the Piggy bits. This cost £3.95. She really enjoyed this and had to ask for another napkin after as if you eat these with your fingers you will get a bit messy. I think a warm damp flannel would be good for this dish.
Mains – Lunch at The Pig Hotel
Seriously how pink is my food? This is the beetroot and goats cheese risotto. I put this photo on my Instagram
My daughter had chosen the glazed ham with eggs and coleslaw. I did offer a side to go with the dish, such as chips but she didn’t want them. This dish was £17.00
After we finished eating we retreated to the drawing room where I had ordered a coffee.
As it was a Mother-daughter day, my daughter was keen to finish up as we were off to do some shopping together. I personally would have loved to cosy up in the drawing room or one of the other rooms for that matter and let my food digest. I did though take some pictures though to show you.
Next, to the Dining Room I spotted this washroom. Isn’t the sink just lovely?
