A quick and easy way to reuse a glass candle by turning it into a terrarium
Do you enjoy upcycling? I do. I wanted to share with you how easy it was to make an open terrarium for the home out of an old glass candle holder.
Your candle is now used. You can’t get any more burn time out of the wick but you don’t want to throw away a perfectly good glass. Surely it can be used for something, yes?
I wanted to reuse my glass candle holder so I decided to turn it into an open terrarium. This is so simple to do, it will make a perfect addition to your home or you can give this as a gift.
Get rid of any old candle wax from the glass jar. (TIP – Putting the jar in the fridge will harden the wax and make it easier to get rid of)
I soaked my glass for an hour in warm soapy water, before using an old cloth to remove any wax.
Once all the excess has been wiped away on an old cloth wash the glass. Voila a shiny new glass!
Depending on the size of the glass. I put soil and sand at the bottom. If your glass is larger you may want soil nearer the top. (I made sure the roots were in soil). Place a few pebbles, stones, small shells, sand around the side of the glass.
Once this is completed pot your succulent into the glass. Place small gravel around the succulent and water the plant lightly. Do not over water! From the top of the glass, I can’t see any soil only small stones.
Give it a try! Let me know if you have tried this. Have you any tips on recycling that you would like to share?
